RowofLife began when Angela Madsen, a paraplegic, from Long Beach, CA USA, and Franck Festor, a single below the knee amputee, from Metz, France, decided to ROW across the Atlantic Ocean in the Woodvale Challenge-2007 Atlantic Rowing Race. On Feb. 7, 2008, after 66 days at sea, they completed that challenge. There were 22 boats in the race (4 persons, pairs, and singles) RowofLife came in 8th in the pairs class and 10th overall. On
June 25, 2009 the Indian Ocean 8 Crew of Angela Madsen, Doug Tumminello,
Helen Taylor, Bernard Fisset, Paul Cannon, Brian Flick, Simon Chalk and
Ian Couch, completed their ROW across the Indian Ocean in the boat
Audeamus after 58 days at sea. They set the World Record for the fastest
Indian Ocean Crossing by Oar, Helen and Angela were the first women to row
across the Indian Ocean. Angela became the first disabled person to row
across the Indian Ocean and to row across two oceans (Indian 2009 &
Atlantic 2007). The Pirate Row Crew is now in the Guinness Book of World
Records. In
Jan. 2011 Angela skippered a crew of 16 on the first ocean catamaran, "Big
Blue," across the Atlantic Ocean from Morocco to Barbados.
www.BigBlueRow.com Angela is the first woman and disabled person to row the Atlantic Ocean twice, Indian Ocean and circumnavigate Great Britain. Angela is now participating in the Javelin and Shot Put. She is hoping to make the US Track and Field Team and ultimately participate in the London Paralympics 2012. Her first attempts at the field events at the Desert Challenge Games in Mesa, AZ and the Dixie Games in Tampa, FL resulting in her breaking the Americas Records in her events. She will be traveling to the Track and Field Nationals, Miramar, FL in June 2011 and the Para Pan-American Games in Guadalajara Mexico in November 2011. In
September 2012, Angela hopes to compete in Track and Field at the
Paralympics in London. She would like to at a Paralympics Field Medal to
her 4 World Championship Rowing Gold Medals. In
Spring 2013, Angela is working on organizing a Trans-Pac Ocean Rowing Race
from California to Hawaii. She is looking for crews to participate. She
would like to get together some different military crews, both able and
alternatively abled, to row. The row is open to crews from around the

Memorial Day 2013--Angela is plans to Row Solo from Long Beach to Honolulu
to bring attention to Veteran's causes.
